What We Do

The Carlsbad Fire Department Foundation is continually assisting the Carlsbad Fire Department through supplemental funding, education, community outreach, and scholarships.

Chemical Detox Chambers

Firefighters are regularly exposed to toxins and carcinogens throughout their careers. A staggering 68% of firefighters will be diagnosed with cancer. These detox chambers allow firefighters to excrete toxic chemicals from their bodies through the use of medical-grade infrared heating technology while performing mild exercise on a stationary bicycle within the chamber.

The Carlsbad Fire Department Foundation will purchase a total of three detox chamber units for the Carlsbad Fire Department by the end of 2018.

Ring Removal Tools

In an emergency, a ring may need to be removed immediately due to the finger or hand being crushed, swollen, or burned. These ring cutters allow the emergency personnel to remove the ring quickly and safely.

Enhanced Hose Couplers for the Jaws of Life

During emergencies, a few seconds can be the difference between a life saved and a life lost. Enhanced hose couplers combine two hoses into one, allowing the hydraulic fluid to move quickly through the hose and to provide maximum pressure and performance of the device, potentially saving a life.

Rescue Watercraft and Rescue Board

Did you know that the Carlsbad Fire Department operates and manages the City of Carlsbad Lifeguard Program? This Program services an area called "North Beach," a previously unguarded 1-mile stretch of beach. The program is led by the Carlsbad Fire Department’s Special Operations Division Chief, alongside two full-time Paramedic Lifeguard Lieutenants who oversee daily operations and the staffing of four lifeguard towers, two lifeguard trucks, two rescue watercraft, one lifeguard utility vehicle and staffing of a joint police/fire rescue boat on Agua Hedionda Lagoon. The Foundation was able to purchase the second rescue watercraft and rescue board to ensure that at least one rescue craft is always in service. These vessels allow for rapid deployment and effective access to the ocean and inland waterways and increase the effectiveness and safety of our personnel in dangerous conditions.

Purchase of Stop the Bleeding Kits

The Foundation assisted the Carlsbad Fire Department with the purchase of Stop the Bleeding Kits which were placed in 34 City of Carlsbad public buildings. Placement of Stop the Bleeding Kits in all City and public buildings is essential to providing immediate treatment to enhance victim potential for survivability in an active shooter, mass casualty event, or individual bodily injury following an accident.
